Take a look at this in-home lifestyle newborn session in Raleigh, NC, featuring natural moments, genuine connection, and the little details that make those first days at home so special.
There is something so special about photographing a newborn in the place where your family is beginning this new chapter together.
For this in-home newborn session, the goal wasn’t to create perfectly posed newborn portraits. Instead, we focused on the little moments that naturally happen at home – snuggling on the couch, holding their baby close, tiny details, and the connection between the new parents and their little one.
I love in-home lifestyle newborn photography because your home becomes part of the story. These photographs aren’t just about what your baby looked like as a newborn. They also document what life looked like during those first few weeks together.

One of the biggest questions I get about lifestyle newborn photography is what actually happens during the session.
The answer is: not much needs to be planned.
You don’t need to have your home perfectly decorated or spotless before I arrive. In fact, I don’t expect it to be. Newborn life is messy, unpredictable, and exhausting – and that’s completely okay.
Instead of trying to make your home look like a studio, I’ll look for the areas with the best natural light and use the spaces that make sense for your family. A bedroom, nursery, living room, or even the kitchen can become part of your photographs.
The session is also intentionally relaxed. Your baby may need to be fed, changed, held, or soothed throughout the session. We simply work around what your baby needs.
That is one of my favorite things about lifestyle newborn photography: there is no need to force a moment that isn’t happening naturally.
We’ll spend time holding your baby, interacting with them, and enjoying those little newborn moments while I document what’s happening along the way.

There is something different about photographing a family in their own home.
Your home is where your baby will have their first naps, first smiles, first baths, and countless ordinary moments that you’ll eventually wish you could remember exactly as they were.
Those ordinary details are worth documenting, too.
The nursery you spent months preparing. The blanket you brought your baby home in. The way your baby fits into your arms. The quiet moments between parents. The tiny fingers wrapped around yours.
These are the details that make your photographs personal to your family.
Rather than creating a gallery that could belong to anyone, an in-home session gives you photographs that are connected to this particular season of your life.
For this session, I focused on the natural interactions and quiet moments that unfolded throughout their time together at home.
Here are some of my favorite images from their session.

My approach to newborn photography is centered around keeping things natural and relaxed.
You don’t need to know how to pose, and your baby doesn’t need to cooperate perfectly. I’ll guide you when needed, but I also want to leave room for the moments that happen naturally.
Especially during those first few weeks, there is so much happening at once. You’re learning your baby, figuring out a new routine, and adjusting to life as a family.
Your photography session shouldn’t add more pressure to that.
Instead, it should give you the opportunity to slow down for a little while and document this season before it changes.
These first days go by incredibly quickly. Your photographs can help you remember not only what your baby looked like, but what it felt like to have them home with you
